Chapter 35: Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA)

DEA is a monthly educational benefit entitlement program for dependents and survivors of veterans who have serious disabilities as a result of their service, or who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition. DEA may be used for degree and certificate programs, apprenticeship, on-the-job training and more.

Children can generally receive benefits under DEA from ages 18-26. Certain exceptions may apply. Eligibility and the timeframe for benefit use for spouses is determined by a variety of factors including if the servicemember is a veteran or deceased and the circumstances for each scenario.

More information on eligibility, and payment can be found on the VA website here: http://www.va.gov/education/survivor-dependent-benefits/dependents-education-assistance/.
